Overcome or Be Overcame by Shea Brewer
Each time you read a book in the bible, something different stands out as the Spirit of Wisdom highlights new passages as part of your teaching or awakening process. While reading Revelations this morning, I’ve noticed a word repeatedly throughout this book: the words ” OVERCOME” and “OVERCAME.”
Overcome means to succeed in dealing with a problem or difficulty. It also means to defeat or prevail over an opponent. Who is the opponent that brings problems? Satan. He tries us constantly, wanting us to stumble in our faith. He tempts us through worldly desires that bring forth sin like: bad habits, ambition, power, perversions, materialism, pride, greed, lusts, hatred, anger, selfishness and idolatry, to name a few.
Do you realize there is a tug of war for your very soul? Fighting this enemy takes amazing endurance, self-control and the ability to guard yourself in the righteousness. We cannot be luke-warm in our walks. We must be on fire for the Father, our daily sacrifice is choosing Him over the World.
The battle is daily. Our goal must be to kill Satan’s seed of influence in all areas of our life. We must be determined to have unwavering commitment to the Messiah. It is only through endurance, belief, our good works, brotherly love and putting the Word into action, that we can overcome the enemies deadly influences.
Our white robes can be stained and our crowns can be taken away. Let us not be mistaken. We must not take the gift for granted. I recently heard that a man died very young. He lived a hard life of abuse to his temple, the body.
The conversation came up about his faith. His friend apologetically said He believed in God, and he was a good person. All I could think to myself was what Jesus said in Mark 10: 18: ” Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good–except God alone.”
Ask yourself what is the evidence of my belief? Does my mouth, my actions and my life reflect the peace and goodness of Yahshua within? Am I kind to myself, kind to others and trusting in His plan and word?
It takes determination and stamina to fight Satan and his demonic messengers. We have to be in a constant “detoxification” process, eliminating sin from our minds, lives and bodies. We cannot be religiously superficial, a Christian in theory, or as part of a Sunday ritualistic routine. Your life should be the light shining forth to the dark world, radiating love to fellow man, to Yah, to animals and to all creation.
The proof really is in the “pudding.” Your actions, your clean living, your good deeds, your spoken words and your outlook provide evidence as to what team you are playing for. How is your stamina and faith during trials? Do others see your peaceful trusting faith? Does your life reflect gratitude to Yahshua who gave His life for yours?
As Jude said in his book, those who were once saved who disobeyed never made it to the Promise-land, so backsliding is not an option. Repentance is the heart of the creator. Like any good parent, he loves a child who truly wants to do better and does better. A humbles heart that acknowledges short comings and makes an active commitment to change is far more pleasing, than one with a prideful or defensive spirit.
James 5: 15 says, ” Confess your trespasses to one another and pray for one another, so that you are healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous one accomplishes much.” So pray for others as they battle against Satan’s schemes. When you feel weak, call on the one that will give you strength. Your real Daddy will hear you and help.
James tells us, “My brothers, what use is it for anyone to say he has belief but does not have works? This belief is unable to save him.” He goes on to say that ” Belief is dead without the works. ”
We cannot be double-minded. Sober on one day and drunk on another. Cursing like a sailor on one day and teaching Sunday school on the next day. We can’t be devoted to our wife on one day and looking at porn on the other. We can’t claim to know Yah and be double-minded or hypocritical in nature.
So the question is….Whose your Daddy? Which Dad will you obey? The Father of lies or the Father of Love? We must pick: Will we overcome as Yahshua did or be overcame by the enemy?
Scriptures noticed today in reading with words overcome and overcame.
” And they overcame him because of the Blood of the Lamb, and because of the Word of their witness, and they did not love their lives to the death.”
In reference to the white horse, ” He went out overcoming and to overcome. ”
” Do not weep. See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, ” the root of David, ” overcame to open the scroll and to loosen it’s seven seals. ”
” To him who overcomes, I shall give to sit with me on My Throne as I also overcame and sat down with my Father on His throne. ”
” He who overcomes, I shall make a supporting post in the Dwelling Place of My Father, and he shall by no means go out. ”
” He who overcomes shall be dressed in white robes and I shall by no means blot out his name from the Book of Life, but shall confess his name before my Father and before His messengers.”
” To him who overcomes, ” I shall give to eat of the tree of life. ”
