Goodwill
Goodwill At the Home of Martha and Mary: NIV ) Luke 10 38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. 40But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” 41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42…

Talk with a Stranger
“ In 2010, while shopping in Hobby Lobby, I seemed to be in the way and said, ” Excuse me, let me move my cart out of the way so you can see the holiday ribbon.” A sophisticated woman in her mid 50’s quickly said, ” No that’s okay, your purse is exposed in the open aisle. You can move your cart back in.” I laughed, put up my Kung fu hands and said, ” Don’t worry if someone takes my purse; I’ll take care of them, ” just kidding of course. In a serious tone, she looked at me and said, “You’re pretty small. I’m not sure about that. “ I changed the…

Ordinary People
After reading a few lines, the High School drama teacher quickly said, “thank you, that’s enough.” Disappointed and feeling rushed off stage, I knew I didn’t get a part in the play Ordinary people, a story about a families struggles after a boating accident caused the death of the older son.The 1980 movie won an Academy Award for best picture and starred Donald Sutherland, Mary Tyler Moore, Judd Hirsch and Timothy Hutton. A few days later someone screamed through the halls of Cy-fair High School, “She posted the cast on the wall!” Slowly approaching the sheet of characters and students names, I anticipated disappointment with the absence of my name.…

New Year, New Life, New You
On Friday night my friend and her daughter from Kansas City came to the house. It was getting kind of late, and I noticed Patty yawning, hopefully out of being tired and not boredom. So we decided to make a pot of coffee. I knew drinking coffee late was a bad idea, but I had a cup with her. Patty, one of the truthtellers and blunter friends in my life, said, “How come you haven’t blogged in a while? Are you slacking off? You know, I got my daughter Lindsay to follow your blog.” I made up an excuse of holiday and birthday craziness, but Patty was right I’ve slacked off. I’ve…

He Has Risen, Risen Indeed.
Christmas season has always been my very favorite time of year. In fact, since I was a little girl the tree had to be up before my birthday on December 6th. Even in College, my apartment never went without a Christmas tree with all the decorations, which was pretty silly since in mid December I always went home for the holidays. I love everything about Christmas from the twinkling lights inside and out to the garland lined stair railings to front doors crowned with gorgeous wreaths of ribbon, ornaments and berries. Broadcasting in every store, on radio stations everywhere, Bing Crosby fills our imaginations with visions of what it would…

DO YOU HAVE JESUS ENVY?
Keep smilin’ Keep shinin’ Knowin’ you can always count on me for sure that’s what friends are for In good times And bad times I’ll be on your side forever more That’s what friends are for We’ve all heard the song sang by Dionne Warwick and friends like Gladys Knight, Elton John and Stevie Wonder. But our greatest friend and the relationship that should be sought even more is Jesus. With my best girlfriends, I cherish deep conversations, venting stints, meaningless topic chats and those free self-discovery crying therapy sessions. Not sure what I would do without my friends, but even more than that, not sure what I would have done…

Are You An Empty Can?
Concerned Apartment tenants called the landlord after smelling smoke coming from the apartment building. My friend, the owner of the building; went door to door smelling outside every unit. When she got to David’s apartment, a 26 year old, single man who works for a collections agency, she smelled smoke. Concerned that her complex was on fire, she quickly unlocked the door to his apartment. She could barely step foot inside blocked by a mountain range of empty beers cans. Everywhere she looked empty cans, empty cases of beer and trash covered the floor, the stove top, the counter top, just everywhere. Like a movie set, it looked as though…

Rain, Snow, Sleet or Shine: He’s In Control!
Unable to escape the standing water, once thriving fish lay in a graveyard of dried mud along the water’s edge of Lake Travis. From a distance, the limestone resembles the white sand beaches of the Caribbean but locals fear the real threat noted by the exposure of the rocks, a quickly vanishing water source. http://www.flickr.com/photos/texasparkswildlife/sets/72157627429641925/show/ Like a war zone, the banks expose barrels, trash, glass and lost treasures that sunk to the bottom of the once deep turquoise body of water. Clear skies, dry air and lack of significant rain only augment the vanishing effect due to continuous usage and evaporation. Fields of dry line our roadways, farmlands and front…

Cross My Mind! Transform Me Lord!
I’ve only had one panic attack in my life, which occurred when I worked for certain woman. Months of enduring an agonizing work environment mounted in the form of a panic attack one morning during a conference meeting with peers. Discussion, turned sour, her eyes narrowed down at me, her sharp sharp tongue lashed out in my direction in front of my co-workers and friends. The room seemed to narrow, my vision blurred, my cold body quivered, and I began to get very thirsty. Feeling as I have never felt before, I cried for the co-workers to call my husband to come pick me up, too upset to drive home.…
