50 Commands of Jesus:
Keep Your Word!
Matthew 5: 33-37
33“Again, you have heard that the ancients were told, ‘YOU SHALL NOT MAKE FALSE VOWS, BUT SHALL FULFILL YOUR VOWS TO THE LORD.’ 34“But I say to you, make no oath at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God, 35or by the earth, for it is the footstool of His feet, or by Jerusalem, for it is THE CITY OF THE GREAT KING. 36“Nor shall you make an oath by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black. 37“But let your statement be, ‘Yes, yes’ or ‘No, no’; anything beyond these is of evil.
I promise….I swear…cross my heart, pinkie swear, I pledge…. Any of these phrases are from the enemy according to Jesus. It’s better to be
non-committal then to make a false promise or to take an oath or promise lightly. Frankly, after reading Jesus’s instructions on vows and oaths, I really am not even comfortable with the pledge of allegiance to the flag. That does not mean I’m not patriotic or that I do not appreciate our service men and women. I’m just not pledging allegiance to anything other than YHWH and HIs son Yahshua.
I’m not comfortable with any of the oaths at all including: Boy & Girls Scouts, Honor Societies or other social organization or clubs. It seems Jesus is pretty clear, anything other than yes or no is from the devil. I think this is a strong reminder to think long and hard, before making any vow because God sees them as very serious and binding.
