Action Louder Than Words.
James 2: 18: Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds.
” Mom, we love you. ”
” Well you guys sure aren’t showing it. I’m sick and this house is a complete mess. Nobody is helping. ”
” We do love you , Mom”
Now of course, I know that my kids love me. But when you are sick, and feeling sorry for yourself, boy can you get disappointed when people don’t help.
We can claim we love God, but do we show Him? There must be good deeds, to back up what we profess. Actions really speak louder than words. How many times have we seen someone wearing a cross around their neck only to flip someone off or have a temper tantrum at the airport terminal? Believers can very easily by their actions, turn people away from believing in Jesus. We must be very careful, not to cause a brother or sister to stumble.
I have for a long time thought that the commandment that says ” You Shall Not take the Name of The LORD YOUR GOD In Vain, ” to have a deeper meaning. I think it also means honor the family name, if you claim me, represent me. Don’t defame or dishonor your Heavenly Father. You are a Child of the Most High, so act like one.
My Grandma, the matriarch of our family, always made it clear that we were not to embarrass the family, we needed to lead by Christian example. Like Grandma Rose had expectations, God also expects us to represent His Family, to actively serve Him and Others in a spirit of love.
We should constantly be asking ourselves, ” How can I serve you today? ”
Reflection:
1. Examine your temperament. Write down the qualities of your overall personality lately. ( Example: Patient, Calm, Angry, Impatient). If you write down several negative qualities- write down the counter word to that. Example: (Impatient: Patience — Angry: Calm)
2. Simple Prayer: Example: Father, In the name of Jesus I cast out the spirit of Anger and I command it by your authority to leave and never to return. I pray that you would impart a spirit of Calmness, complete Shalom over my being.
3. Examine & Plan Good Deeds: What good deeds have you done for someone in need? What ways can you honor His Holy Name, by Serving Others, letting your Light Shine?
