Goodwill
At the Home of Martha and Mary: NIV ) Luke 10
38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. 40But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one.[f] Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
Considerations for today:
1. Do you put things, chores, tasks before your relationships?
2. Do you put more time & energy into things that in the “big picture” don’t really matter?
3. Is Jesus on the shelf? Or from time to time do you cage him up like the above picture?
4. Is Jesus for someone else and not you? Have you put him in the to go to Goodwill bag?
Perhaps, you only feel comfortable with the word “God” and not Jesus, after all the word God is more universal and socially acceptable. ( Read the word—let the Holy Spirit speak to your heart as you read the New Testament. You’ll finally understand and know Jesus for yourself. You won’t be scared to use the word Jesus in public once you read the bible first hand. It’s okay to have questions and search for the truth.)
4. How often do you show kindness to stranger? Have you been Jesus in the flesh to anyone lately?
5. Is it hard for you to not sweat the small stuff? Are you anxious?
Action Items: What steps can you take to put these relationships first? Date night? Play date with kids? Get a maid? Plan a family trip? Cut off work at certain time? Put away the electronic devices?
Scriptures:
Philippians 4:6
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
Numbers 6:26
The LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace.”’
Philippians 2:5
In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: (Would Jesus choose chores & tasks over quality time? All we have is right now. Life is short. As my Grandma used to say, “Death is final.” )
Somehow when we focus on perfection in all areas of our lives besides our relationship with God and friends/family—we miss the mark completely chasing something to feel our void.
** I’ve been sick the last couple of weeks. Pray for my health and energy to retun. You’ll notice my sniffles in the audio, but it was time to reach out again.
