I Do It Myself!
One day, I was in the kitchen cleaning dishes. Braxton, my two year old was in the closet trying to put on a Minnie Mouse dress. She was crying, struggling, grunting and carrying on and on. She did not cry for my help; she did not call out my name. Like any good parent, I decided to wait and see if she could work out the problem by herself, after all she is a ” big girl.”
She never called for help. She just continued to fight her own battle with the dress. Arm in head hole, inside out and backwards…it was a mess. Finally, I yelled out to her, “Braxton, Mommy is in the kitchen. If you need help, just ask me. I will help you. Do you need my help?” Whining she said, ” Yes, Mommy, I need help. ”
As I stood in the kitchen, it occured to me that our relationship with God is just like that. Just like any good parent, God lets us try to figure things out on our own perhaps so we will grow and learn. But He is close by and waiting for us when we call on Him. All we have to do is call out for help.
How many times in your life were you just like Braxton, struggling, crying, carrying on and not calling out for help? Probably more times than you care to mention.
So when your tired and feeling dizzy from all the things life throws you, ask yourself , “Am I asking him for help? “Chances are that you’ve been trying to do everything by yourself. Just as Brax says, ” I do it myself!” Remember with God, everything is easier.
So remember…don’t struggle alone, he’s a prayer away. Ask and You Shall Receive!
Psalm 107:28-30
New International Version (NIV)
28 Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
and he brought them out of their distress.
29 He stilled the storm to a whisper;
the waves of the sea[a] were hushed.
30 They were glad when it grew calm,
and he guided them to their desired haven.
